And America Brings home the gold! Team USA was phenomenal at this year's 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Stars like Stephen Curry, Noah Lyles, Katie Ledecky, and Simone Biles dominated this summer. The US won 40 Gold Medals, 44 Silver Medals, and 42 Bronze Medals. In total, that is 126 Medals. USA led this year's medal count behind China and Japan. In this article, we will be breaking down some of the best athletes that represented the United States this year.
The Men's Basketball Team continued their dominance on the court with NBA Stars like Stephen Curry, Lebron James, Kevin Durant, and so much more. They won their 4th consecutive Gold since 2008. People in the media called the team "The Avengers" because USA did not win last year at the FIBA Basketball World Cup. Lebron James was named Olympics MVP after averaging 14.2 points along with team highs of 6.8 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game. Stephen Curry was the team's leading scorer with 14.8 points per game. In the Gold Medal game against Team France, Stephen Curry had one of the best performances of his career. Curry is known as one of the best shooters in the game, and he proved that in this summer. He hit his iconic "Night Night" celebration after making a game-winning shot. USA beat France by a score of 98-87.
For the Women's Swimming Team, Katie Ledecky had one of the best Olympic Performances of all time! She was the fastest and was doing things that are Mind blowing. Ledecky is 27 years old and participated in the 2012, 2016, and 2020 Olympic Games. In 2024, she competed in the 400-Meter, 800-Meter, and 1500-Meter Freestyle, as well as the 4x200-Meter freestyle relay. Ledecky is (In my opinion) the Greatest Swimmer we have seen since the Legendary Micheal Phelps. This year she won 4 Medals. 2 Gold, 1 Silver, and 1 Bronze.
For Men's Track and Field, Noah Lyles was the best and the Fastest. In 2023, Lyles was ranked as the No. 1 Fastest Person in the world. Previously, he participated in the 2020 Olympic games in Tokyo. In this year's Olympics he won the 100 Meter Title, winning a gold for Team USA.
For Women's Gymnastics, Simone Biles had done flips and tricks that no one had ever done before. At 27 years old, she previously participated in the 2016 and 2020 Olympics. This year she won 4 Medals, 3 Golds and 1 Silver. Fun Fact about Biles: She is married to NFL Safety Jonothan Owens who plays for the Chicago Bears.
